Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado volunteers are dedicated to the wellbeing of our community. HPCNC ensures that volunteers are screened and trained in order to offer the best in compassionate care to hospice families. Potential volunteers must complete an application, background check, TB skin test and drug screening. Liability auto insurance is also required. A volunteer will undergo comprehensive training to cover all aspects of hospice care. This will include the confidentiality of patient information, nursing, psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement care. Our volunteers provide a number of important services. They offer direct patient support, compassionate, practical and caring help. Volunteers often assist the primary caregivers by sitting with the patient to provide the caregivers respite from the often overwhelming task of providing care for a loved one. This can include running errands, assisting with chores, reading patients books or newspapers or making phone calls. A volunteer provides emotional support by lending an ear, holding a hand or just by being a positive presence for the patients. Volunteers also assist the office with various tasks such as answering the phones, helping with fundraisers or special events and aid our bereavement counselors.
